Playas del Coco is a lively bay town in northern Guanacaste, popular for diving, sunsets and its easy access to the Papagayo peninsula. From San José it’s a long but simple drive: paved all the way, about 4h 15m to 5h.
If most of your trip is in Guanacaste, fly into Liberia (LIR): Coco is only about 30 minutes from that airport.
