Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Costa Rica Transit (“we”, “us”) collects and uses information when you visit costaricatransit.com (the “Site”).

1. Information we collect

  • Information you send us: when you use our contact form we receive your name, email address and message. We use it only to reply to you.
  • Automatically collected information: like most websites, our servers and service providers log technical data such as IP address, browser type, device, pages visited and referring pages.
  • Tools: our calculators and trip planner run in your browser. Trip stops you enter may appear in the page address so you can share it; we don’t store them on our servers.

2. Cookies and advertising

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance.

  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info.
  • Learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are shown a consent message, and personalized ads are only served with consent. You can change your choices at any time using the privacy settings link provided by the consent message.

3. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the Site (for example, which guides are read and how people arrive). Google Analytics uses cookies and collects data such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser. We use these statistics only in aggregate to improve our content. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Learn more in Google’s Privacy Policy.

4. Maps and photos

Our maps load map tiles from OpenStreetMap, and our photos are served by Unsplash. When a page loads these, your browser requests files from those providers, which receive your IP address.

5. How we use information

  • To operate, maintain and improve the Site;
  • To respond to your messages;
  • To measure audience and improve our guides;
  • To show and measure advertising;
  • To protect the Site against spam and abuse.

We do not sell your personal information.

6. Data retention

Contact messages are kept as long as needed to respond and for our records, then deleted. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR or U.S. state privacy laws such as the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. To make a request, contact us.

8. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
