    How to plan a realistic itinerary

    • Keep driving days under 4–5 hours. Real drive times in Costa Rica are longer than apps say.
    • Never plan to drive after dark (sunset is around 5:30–6:15 pm all year).
    • Stay at least 2 nights in each place — one-night stops mean you spend the trip packing.
    • Pick the right airport: SJO for Arenal, the Central/South Pacific and the Caribbean; LIR for Guanacaste and northern Nicoya.
